Hope's Art Journey
Painting in Progress - sky at East Pass

This is a 30 x 30 canvas that I stretched myself and gessoed using Utrecht gesso. It is very creamy and covers well. I coated the raw canvas 3 times. Then, I did a glaze of yellow ochre over the entire canvas. I decided to block in the trees and marsh in a underpainting in order to get a pattern before I did the sky. In a painting this size with such a complicated cloud pattern, I find it usually pays to paint it first. I can repaint the area around the trees to cut into areas. It took me over a week to do the sky. I used easy flow so I could blend some and added medium to the mixtures. The Utrecht titanium white is very opaque and covers well. It still takes several coats to cover some areas where I wanted almost pure white.
On a personal note - I have been researching downtown Clermont for spaces to rent. I either want to open my own gallery showing my work and maybe some 3 dimensional work. I have no plans for classes as I need a flexible schedule. Also, it is not my plan to work too hard as I just need to break even not make a killing.
